Mariem and Fatimetou our conjoined twins from Mauritania have arrived safely in Boston. JHI is grateful for the incredible work of our community to ensure these babies and their mother enjoyed a peaceful and safe journey. This was due, in no small part, to the exceptional care of Laura our medical chaperone who ensured comfort, care, and respect. We are eternally grateful for her efforts.

JHI volunteers were also there at the airport to ensure the family received a warm welcome. Our guests are currently adjusting to a new environment, as they begin the long medical treatment that will span the next nine months. Happening only once every 2.5 million births, craniopagus twins are exceedingly rare and the procedure for separating them, craniopagus separation, is highly complex. However, Mariem and Fatimetou have already beaten the odds by surviving birth and becoming eligible for surgery, a stage only 25% of craniopagus twins reach. Initial medical appointments are already underway as JHI works to ensure all their outpatient needs are met. They required safe housing, nutrition, winter gear, and all additional necessities.
Please help us ensure the safety and well-being of these twins and their mother by donating today. Together we can provide hope, healing, and a brighter future.
